EPRI GIC Monitor

GIC Sensor: This task is developing an RF sensor to measure geomagnetically in- duced currents (GIC) in lines and transformers. This sensor would connect to the energized phase conductors and provide essential information compared to the traditional method of installing the sensor on the grounded neutral. A technology demonstrator has been tested in the laboratory. Further verification, hardware, and algorithm refinements are required before a field demonstration.
